This song is about the police murder of Dontre Hamilton in our hometown of Milwaukee, WI. On April 30, 2014 Dontre was sleeping in a park downtown by a Starbucks stand. The employees were uncomfortable by the presence of a black man sleeping so close to their place of work and called the police on him several times. Dontre was approached by officers 3 times. The first two times officers asserted he was doing nothing wrong and let him stay sleeping in the park. The third time, Officer Christopher Manney approached Dontre and performed an illegal pat down that led to a scuffle ending in Dontre being shot 14 times in the head, chest and back. Witnesses say that Dontre was some distance from Manney when the shots were fired. Manney was fired from the Milwaukee Police Department for an "out of policy patdown" but not for murdering Dontre. The Milwaukee DA John Chisolm chose to not indict Manney for the killing. Manney is a free man today.
